Experience the artistry of Chengjin Tian, an accomplished pipa performer whose rigorous classical training and compelling stage presence have earned her recognition as a TCU Music Ambassador, All-Region judge, and rising leader in the Chinese music community.
Originally trained at the High School Affiliated to the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Chengjin is the last protégé of renowned pipa master Xie Jiaguo and also studied under Zhang Zhongju, with additional guidance from Zhang Hongyan and Wang Fandi. At age 14, she won the Gold Medal at the National Finals of the Chinese Youth Art Exchange and Performance Activities, receiving the award personally from esteemed composer He Zhanhao.
A graduate of Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Music Education and an Artist Diploma, Chengjin has given solo recitals and lecture-performances that highlight her expressive technique and deep understanding of traditional Chinese repertoire. As former Principal Pipa of the Shanghai Theatre Academy Chinese Orchestra, she has performed widely in China and the United States, promoting the beauty, versatility, and cultural richness of the pipa on international stages.
